A great deal of attention has been paid to various contextual features of the aging process, and this is especially true in the study of aging, work, and retirement. Here, we review two books—one written for a “popular” audience, the other for an “academic” audience—that explore features of later-life work and retirement. Across both texts, a common theme emerges: aging at work and retirement are painted in an overwhelmingly positive light.
